The literature is clear that the average woman of reproductive age needs a minimum of 2,000 calories a day for optimal thyroid, hormonal, & metabolic function… yet over 95% of my clients come to me eating less than 1,000 calories a day. How is this statistic possible? I call it the diet cycle. 95% of all diets fail, meaning all weight (if not more) is gained back. The body is an incredibly intelligent, primal design, and when we tell our body that food is scarce, it responds appropriately. The metabolism slows down, fat cells prepare themselves to significantly grow + multiply, and your brain drives you to over-eat. This is a recipe for a rapid gain of survival fat, or “stubborn” fat. So the diet is over, we gain more weight back, we are unhappy with the way we look, and the cycle continues… except it’s harder to lose weight this time, so we take more extreme measures, and we become more miserable. Stop believing the lie that moodiness, anxiety, irritability, low sex drive, and fatigue are a normal part of being a woman. These are symptoms that the body is in a chronic state of stress. It’s time to take back and heal what is being damaged by a “calories in, calories out” diet culture. Cutting calories is not the answer. The answer is longterm health over short-term vanity, the answer is prioritizing gut health, and the answer is eliminating dietary toxins that create inflammation + weight gain, and the answer is learning to honor + listen to what our bodies need.
